"The roots of the Ulm-based Magirus-Deutz company – one of the worlds best known and most famous fire engine manufacturers - reach back to 1864 when Conrad Dietrich Magirus founded a factory for fire fighting equipment. A widely used standard fire engine is the pumper called LF16 in Germany that was offered by Magirus-Deutz too. One of their great advantages was the fact that they could be delivered completely to the fire brigades as Magirus-Deutz built both the truck base and the fire engine body. MAGIRUS-DEUTZ 150D10 LF16 'FEUERWEHR DUESSELDORF' (439144071) In the 1960s most of the LF16 bodies were based on the square hood truck series that succeeded the classic round hood versions of the 1950s. The technical layout remained basically the same. Having a gross weight of 10 tons the Merkur 150A was driven by a 9,5 litre V6 diesel engine with an output of 150 hp. Most of the LF16 pumpers were fitted with four wheel drive. So they could easily reach the accident sites even when they were no streets around."
